Binnie Clements Guild

Binnie Clements goes back to the year 1928.  Mrs. Clements, the wife of a Springfield physician, was the leader in the Old Calvary congregation who proposed that an organization be established to aid needy children in the community.  The organization which was named for its founder has been raising funds annually for over 75 years.

Guild members provide service to community, children's charities and to First & Calvary Presbyterian Church by volunteering during fundraising events, in the baby shower for Crosslines and other yearly activities. Binnie Clements Guild meets the last Monday of the month at 12:00 Noon in our Fellowship Hall for a luncheon meeting. All women of our community are invited to become members. Service time varies depending on the project or meeting. Members serve once a year on a luncheon committee.

Presbyterian Women

Young and old join together for opportunities for fellowship and service.  Presbyterian Women (PW) is a church wide organization whose membership is open to all women of the Presbyterian Church (USA) who choose to participate in or be supportive of PW in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women from all racial and ethnic groups so that the organization reflects a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence in which diversity contributes to wholeness.

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through

  • prayer and Bible study, through which we support the mission of the Church worldwide
  • work for justice and peace, and build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witness to the promise of God's kingdom.

Circles

The Presbyterian Women in the congregation functions via PW Circles and other small groups that gather regularly to provide an inclusive caring community of women. Two yearly meetings are held for the entire group. The individual Circles meet monthly. There are both day and evening opportunities for Circle members.

Circle members study Scripture, offer intercessory prayer, join Christian women around the world in teh Fellowship of the Least Coin, make kits for Church World Service, and supply snacks for Sigma House residents. Mission Sewing Committee women make baby quilts, layettes, and lap robes. The Hospitality committee works with Circle members and provides lunch for Chow and Chapel at the United Ministry Center on the MSU campus. Yearly bi-annual luncheon meetings are held to celebrate the birthday Offering and the Thank & Medical Offering, which support selected ministries nationally and around the world.

Quilters

This group of dedicated women meets every Thursday at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Is there any better place to visit than sitting around a beautiful quilt in a frame? Busy hands and friendly company make for good times. Plan on joining us for a fun-filled morning. Bring a sack lunch.

Women's Retreat

Each year the First & Calvary women enjoy a weekend away from their normal routines to spend time alone with God and each other. Please watch for more details about Women's Retreat 2008 in the coming months.
